European Gold for Šuran Wine’s Microcosm design
The original packaging solution for Šuran wines from Rovinj depicted the microbiological activity of the soil and won gold at the European Design Awards.
The European Design Awards competition proved successful once again for the Tumpić/Prenc Studio for Visual Communication, in whose vision we also participated by printing the label for the packaging of Šuran wines from Rovinj. These wines, prepared according to biodynamic principles of agriculture, have earned a special status due to their distinctiveness.
The idea behind the label by the Tumpić/Prenc Studio precisely relies on this crucial characteristic of enriching the soil with natural preparations that significantly increase the microbiological activity of the soil, which is presented through layers of soil depicted on the label. In this design, microorganisms are represented by letters from a quote in which Italian scientist and activist Carlo Petrini calls for ecological awareness, criticizing mass food production. However, the consumer is offered a magnifying glass integrated into the lid of a specially designed box in which the bottle is placed.
The shared ecological vision of Šuran Wine and the Tumpić/Prenc Studio was also recognized at the Europan Design Awards, which has been evaluating the best design achievements on the continent since 2007.
The selection is unique in that the jury is not comprised of professional designers, but rather critics, editors, and authors from several European countries who write about design.
This prestigious competition received entries from 34 countries this year, and the jury evaluated 212 nominated works from 27 countries.
